News to Use from RQ July 12th
Posted by KJCB on July 12, 2018
Can you believe we are only one week away from the RQ Turns 10 Retreat in Shipshewana?! We are very excited for the retreat and look forward to some serious sewing time starting next Thursday! One more reminder that you cannot enter the sewing room to setup at the Farmstead Inn until Noon on Thursday, July 19th. There have been some great logistical questions on the Retreat Group Page on Facebook. Check there (or with your roommates if you aren't on Facebook) for more details. On to the news...
General BOM Information
With so many new and returning BOM customers at RQ, we thought a quick reminder of a few of our most FAQs would be worth sharing in this week's newsletter. You can also find this information on the Block of the Month Programs page of the RQ website.
*BOMs are charged on the 1st day of the month by our automated system that securely stores your credit card information. Your card being charged does not mean that your block has been shipped or is ready for pick-up.
*RQ Staff cannot see credit card numbers that are stored in the secure system. If your card is expired and you have the exact same number but a new date, we can update the expiration for you. But if there is any other change, we will need the entire credit card number, expiration date and CVV to create a new subscription for your particular project. This is for the safety and security of your information.
*Please do NOT email credit card numbers! This is not a secure method of communication of important information. Give us a call and we will be happy to take your information over the phone.
*In store BOM participants can pick up their BOM packages on the first Saturday of the month after our meeting OR any time AFTER the first Saturday. We do not allow blocks to be picked up early.
*BOM packages for those who participate by mail are shipped the week following the first Saturday of the month. This means that there can be variability of when you receive your block based on when the first Saturday falls in a particular month.
July Quilts of Valor Workshop
We will be having our regularly scheduled QOV gathering next Wednesday, July 18th at RQ. In addition to our usual patriotic sewing session, we will have special guest Denniele Bohannon of Louanna Mary Designs come in and speak to our QOV group about her book, Where Poppies Grow. As you may recall from previous newsletters, Denniele designed and pieced our beautiful quilt "Celebrate" for our 10th Anniversary. Where Poppies Grow is based on letters Denniele's great-grandfather sent home from World War I. Remembering Almo, the main quilt, was designed to honor him and those who have served our country. Almo O'Kell served as a medic during World War I and was one of the many soldiers who never came home. His story, told through quilts, can be personalized to tell your family's story. So even if you're busy packing to leave for the RQ Turns 10 Retreat the next day, try to stop in and hear from Denniele :)
Featured Future BOM
We have a new BOM project that will be available starting August 2018 at RQ. Dimensions was designed by Stephanie Soebbing of Quilt Addicts Anonymous featuring Shades by Kinkame. This pattern uses ombre prints to create the beautiful shading across the 80" x 80" quilt. Basic piecing techniques and a full color pattern booklet make this project "confident beginner" friendly. We have limited availability on this project so don't delay in signing-up for your BOM or Full Kit today!
RQ Turns 10: Christmas in July
July has been hot, hot, hot in Indiana so far, but we are packed to the rafters with Christmas and winter holiday fabrics that are ready to be used in your 2018 projects! We have two sales running on Christmas yardage based on when the fabric arrived at RQ. Click the links below to view available yardage online. Half yard minimums apply in store. Last year's Christmas/holiday fabric is all on a table in the classroom for easy shopping (see above)!
Dates to Remember in July: This month's RQ Canvas Tote Bag Day will be Friday, July 27th when you can receive 10% off your purchase in store with your RQ Bag!
What's New at RQ
A sweet nursery grouping has arrived from Clothworks. Jungle Fever by Rebecca Jones features the jungle animal panel featured above. Coordinates include an elephant toss on white, a fish toss on blue, and an allover jungle animal print (with anteaters!). Add a few solids or polka dots and have what you need for a complete project.
Hearthside Holiday by Deb Strain for Moda Fabrics is now available for your winter projects. This collection features red, greens, blacks, and grays in a variety of prints. Be sure to check out the "Have a holly jolly Christmas" trees and the reindeer heads. There are two great applique projects using Hearthside Holiday including the Peace on Earth Kit (seen above). Not quite your style? Take a look at the Most Famous Reindeer Banner Kit instead. Jelly rolls, layer cakes, and charm packs also available.
Something Wicked by Sue Zipkin for Clothworks is our second Halloween collection for 2018. Black birds, happy jack-o-lanterns, bats, and skulls with crossbones are all found in this spooky group. Grab the Something Wicked Panel Kit (featured above) to make a quick wall hanging or cut apart the panel to make a larger patchwork project.

BERNINA Foot of the Month July
Did You Know?
We'll be ready to share Jubilee by Amanda Murphy (fabrics that were designed specifically for BERNINA's 125th Anniversary) very soon! The blacks and golds feature metallic accents (local quilters think Purdue quilts too!) and there are even a few pearlescent prints. The collection has great pattern support beyond the 125th Anniversary Quilt and we plan to kit a few different options. However, the 125th Anniversary Quilt pattern will be featured as a sew-along on the We All Sew Blog starting this fall.
