News to Use from RQ April 9th
Posted by KJCB on April 08, 2020
As the sickness, closings, unemployment, economical hardship and more drag on across our country and the globe, it is sometimes hard to feel optimistic about things. While so many of us are impacted negatively in one way or another from this pandemic, I find that forcing myself to think of at least ONE good thing I’ve done, seen, or heard during that day before going to bed at night is a way to not feel so bad. How about it? Can you find a silver lining?
I have read that auto accidents and drunk driving incidents have gone down. In California, one study said that accidents are down 60% on their crowded freeways. That means personal injury is down as well. Some auto insurance companies are offering their customers partial rebates on their premiums due to fewer accident payouts.
In early February, David and I toured the Adler Planetarium in Chicago with our son, who is a member there. One display talked about “light pollution”. I was intrigued. Where we live, there are massive numbers of stars visible every clear night. I hadn’t given a thought to people in cities never being able to stargaze, look for satellites, or watch for fleeting shooting stars. Now it’s been reported that they are better able to see these marvels as cities sleep earlier and deeper than before. I hope so!
So, if you are wondering when our stay-at-home orders will ever lift, write down one thing every day that happened in your personal life that was happy or good. Need some tips? Round up the kids for an old time 50’s dance party! Download and dance to the soundtrack of the Broadway show “Million Dollar Quartet” with them. Watch a Fred Astaire movie. Any Fred Astaire movie. Audible.com is having some free storytelling. Sit with the kids and have someone read all of you a story. Clean out closets and look for formal wear you can save for us to send to one of our favorite charities, “Deploy Your Dress”. What silver linings can you think of?
Through next Tuesday, April 14th, post your silver lining activity or story on the RQ Facebook page and be sure to use #silverliningRQ. Let’s keep our spirits up by sharing our good thoughts! Next Wednesday, I will enter everyone who posted (at least one thing, one entry per person) into a drawing for a Moda Bella Solid Silver Charm Pack. We will have three random winners! And, until the next newsletter, our best wishes and thanks to you all. ~ Marcia

We have added another Block of the Month to our roster of Fall 2020 programs. Azul was designed by Linda McGibbon of Lakeview Quilting and features fabrics by Whistler Studios of Windham Fabrics. The finished quilt is approximately 95" x 95" and is expected to begin in October 2020. In addition to the beautiful blue prints used on the quilt top, we will have a coordinating 108" wide backing from the Azul collection available in October.
What's New at RQ
Now that Spring has arrived in the Midwest, it is time for the 2020 Winter and holiday fabrics to start shipping! Winter Barn by Timeless Treasures features one of their beautiful 2/3 yard panels of barn in a snowy setting. The Snap Shots "Winter Barn" Kit (featured above) uses the panel and coordinating fabrics to make a throw size quilt perfect for snuggling on the couch. Individual fabric skus are in stock now and kits will ship as soon as patterns arrive.
Another winter warm and snuggly collection that has arrived is Snow Day Flannels by Bunnies by the Bay for Timeless Treasures. This group features one focus print with woodland critters making snow angels! Coordinates include polka dots, a fun plaid, and a unique wood grain piece. Create the Cozy Friends Kit (seen above) designed by Heidi Pridemore which finishes at approximately 45" x 56"
