News to Use from RQ June 22nd
Posted by KJCB on June 22, 2017
We're down to the last few days of June 2017 already. If you're participating in the AllPeople Quilt UFO Resolution Challenge make sure to find time to finish up UFO #10! Just a reminder that there will not be a BOM meeting on July 1st; however, your blocks will be available to pick-up during our regular operating hours. On to the news...
BOM News and Updates
We've received our shipment of fabric for the It's Not a Square BOM earlier than expected. If anyone has signed-up for the project and would like to begin receiving their blocks in July instead of August, please let us know and we will adjust your start date. We are excited to announce that local designer and creator of this lovely BOM, Carol Hopkins, will be at our August BOM meeting on the 5th to help celebrate the official kickoff of the It's Not a Square BOM! She will be speaking with It's Not a Square BOM participants following our regular meeting.
Fern Hill BOM participants: We have received the missing pages of the month 9 pattern and will be sending those via email so you can complete this month's quilt section. Be sure to check your email and let us know if you have not received the PDFs. Thank you for your patience while we gathered this information for you all.
New Products in Stock at RQ
We're continuing to receive new products that we purchased at Spring Market! This week after clearing customs, we received a large parcel from Australia and Helen Stubbings that includes new patterns, needles, threads, and precut, fusible EPP shapes (small sampling above). Helen's newest book Simply Redwork is also back in stock.
Additionally, we've received a shipment of cork fabric pieces from Sew Many Creations. Allison has put together a cute cork wallet using the Mini Diva Wallet pattern and coordinating hardware. Be sure to stop in and see her sample as well as the new, bright, colors of cork we now have in stock.
What's New at RQ
Neptune and the Mermaid by Tokyo Milk for FreeSpirit Fabric is now at RQ. This fun and modern collection features large prints that are great for bags and home decor. Where else can you see an octopus swimming with roses or mermaids floating with goldfish? Only in this unique grouping!
Eat, Drink, and Be Ugly by Sandy Gervais for Moda Fabrics reminds us of what the holidays are all about...ugly sweaters of course! Celebrate the tradition of wearing your favorite ugly sweater during the winter holidays and make a coordinating bag or quilt. Traditional reds and greens are combined with a pop of navy and aqua for a very modern feel. Precuts and patterns using the collection are available at RQ now.
We've done something a bit different for RQ with this collection. This is American Swatchbook by Judie Rothermel for Marcus. These are the fabrics used in the upcoming It's Not a Square BOM program designed by local author Carol Hopkins (mentioned above). In addition to the fabric for the BOM program, we ordered the whole collection on bolts! We have this fabric available now (once it's out of the box) and there is no waiting until the BOM program is over to purchase yardage. If you've picked up a copy of The 4" x 5" Quilt Block Anthology, grab a fat quarter bundle or half yard pieces and put together one of the quilts in the book using American Swatchbook.
