News to Use from RQ July 13th
Posted by KJCB on July 13, 2017
I'm back home in Rossville after a week's vacation in the Northern woods of Wisconsin. I did a bit of hand sewing while up North on the Scrappity-do-dah EPP QAL from Helen Stubbings. This is new to me and I think I may be addicted now. I love having a project I can take with me when I can't take my sewing machine along. Don't forget to stop in and see the EPP and stitchery patterns that we have in stock from Helen in addition to her new book, Simply Redwork. On to the news...
BERNINA University in Las Vegas
BERNINA University is the annual conference for BERNINA dealers and this year it is in "HOT" Las Vegas! David is busy learning all about the new machines that will be available later this year and finding us new programs to offer. This photo (courtesy of @berninausa on Instagram) shows the new 5 series machines including the stand alone embroidery machine the B500. Keep an eye out for more details when David returns to RQ in a few weeks!
July Quilts of Valor
This month's Quilts of Valor (QOV) will be held on Wednesday, July 19th. We will be meeting at RQ this month. Please sign-up online or call the store to let us know you plan to attend. Remember that we have less space at RQ than at Mill House. Don't forget that we are working towards a QOV presentation this fall so even if you can't attend next week, keep working on those QOV projects!
What's New at RQ
Pete the Cat by James Dean and MerryMakers is now available on flat cotton and flannel. This cool dude features bright, primary colors perfect for gender neutral projects. Some prints are available on both flat cotton and flannel, please be sure to read the product description carefully. Use the panel squares in conjunction with the coordinates to make the cute project featured above.
Bonehead by Ellen Crimi-Trent for Clothworks is another new Halloween collection for 2017. The cute panel (seen above) features squares that would make great mug rugs or cut the patches apart for quilt blocks. We have a few coordinating prints including a spiderweb, a bone toss, and ghosts in a row. Get ready to Trick or Trick today!
We have Disney Princesses now at RQ. Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, and Snow White are now available from Camelot Cottons. Great for pillowcases and other home decor projects. We hope to expand our collection of Licensed Disney prints in the future if the princesses are well received so order yours today!
Did You Know?
The Moda Cutting Table Blog has an interesting post this week about extra wide backing fabrics. They talk about how extra wide backings are made and how the thread count is different compared to 45" wide goods. There are even some recommendations about prewashing your backing fabrics. Head over to the Moda Blog to read more and then stop in at RQ to see our selection of extra wide backings.
