News to Use from RQ August 3rd
Posted by KJCB on August 03, 2017

Hello Everyone,
Welcome to August! This month's UFO Challenge is project #5 for those of you following along with the AllPeople Quilt Resolution Challenge. Mine is a blue and brown quilt (I only have a few of those...) made using a pattern from the Moda BakeShop. I hope to be able to finish this one up as it will be made from one of my most favorite fabric collections ever, Pure by Sweetwater (yes, that's an old one). Read on for more information on this month's BOM meeting and BERNINA classes in addition to this week's new fabric collections. On to the news...
August Block of the Month Meeting
This Saturday, August 5th is our monthly BOM meeting with doors opening at 9:00 a.m. This month's BOM challenge is to bring school supplies which will be donated locally. We have done this the last few years and the school is always very appreciative!
This month we will have a special visitor to our BOM meeting. Local pattern designer Carol Hopkins will be attending to help us kickoff her new program It's Not a Square (quilt seen above). She will speak briefly during our BOM meeting and then gather with It's Not a Square members at about 10 a.m. We still have room available in this program for those interested in starting Saturday!
Additional BOMs starting include Mystical Prism and Living in the Moment. We still have room for those interested in either program. However, we are waiting on more patterns for Mystical Prism so we may not have packets on Saturday for any last minute joiners :)
Logan's Crossroad, Freedom Bound, and Bird Walk will all be receiving their final package in August. Remaining yardage for backing will be available for purchase on Saturday.
Reminder to BOM participants by mail that your blocks will be shipped the week AFTER the first Saturday of the month. This means we will begin shipping your blocks on Monday, August 7th.
BERNINA Mastery Classes Scheduled
We've loaded up the August calendar with BERNINA mastery classes for machine owners wanting to know more about their BERNINAs! Please register online to reserve your seat in the class. Also, it is necessary for you to check the online supply list so that you can come prepared to class.
Those who have not taken any mastery classes should start with the BERNINA Quick Start Mastery Class on either August 12th or August 15th. The second class in the series is Play with Your Feet scheduled for August 19th. Embroidery machines have their own class set for August 17th. August is "Back to School" even at RQ!
What's New at RQ
So this group has been around for awhile; however, it was stuck on a shelf in the backroom and it has finally come out on the sales floor! Devotion by Iron Orchid Designs for Clothworks is ready for your future spring projects. Traditional floral prints with butterflies, polka dots, and a circular iron gate print make for an elegant collection. With only 16 skus in the collection, the fat quarter bundle is the perfect way to have a piece of each print on hand!
Luna by Dear Stella Designs is a sweet collection with a "night-time slumber" theme. From the closed eyelids with lashes to the shooting stars among the crescent moon, these skus will make soothing projects for bedtime. How about a pillowcase or a shades of blue wall hanging for the nursery? So many ideas come to mind with these pieces!
First, there was Grunge, then there were the Grunge Dots, and NOW we have Grunge Dot Extra Wides! These beautiful Grunge Polka Dots Extra Wide Backings by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics are approximately 108" wide. We have Manilla, Black Dress, and Eggplant in stock and ready to head home with you today!
Did You Know?
When you head to the RQ Calender/Event page, you should see blue pushpins on certain dates for the month. If you click on one of those blue pushpins, you will see the information about the event happening that day populate on the right side of your computer screen (or below the calendar if on a mobile device). You will then be able to add the event to your cart and complete checkout the same as if you were purchasing fabric!
If you are on a month with green colored pushpins, that means the event is being held at our Mill House Retreat Center instead of at the RQ classroom :)
Happy sewing,
~ K
