News to Use from RQ August 10th
Posted by KJCB on August 10, 2017
We have a change to announce in regards to our regularly scheduled QOV meeting. Due to events at both RQ and the Mill House Retreat Center, we will be moving this month's QOV Sewing Day to Wednesday, August 23rd. We will be at the Mill House Retreat Center and we will be hosting the State of Indiana Coordinator for the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Start time is still 10:00 a.m. Please make sure to mark the change on your calendar! On to the news...
Forest Floor BOM Cutting Tip
Forest Floor BOM Participants: Please take note of the cutting recommendation for your Month 8 package. The picture may be difficult to see; however, you can see it in more detail at wingandaprayer.com. You need to cut 2 - 2 1/2" x 14" strips (for the 2 1/2" squares) FIRST before you cut your 1 1/2" strips or you won't have enough fabric. Refer to the picture to see how best to utilize the fabric you received in your package.
Featured Future EBOM
We're starting a new Machine Embroidery Block of the Month in September. Flower Dance by Smith Street Designs combines machine embroidery with traditional piecing to bring you the beautiful quilt seen above. Monthly price of the EBOM includes the necessary embroidery designs and instructions on a cd. You choose your fabrics and threads to suit your own tastes! Various file formats are available so all machine brands are welcome. Head to the RQ website to learn more and see the project in additional colorways. Sign-up today to reserve your spot!
BERNINA Mastery Classes Scheduled
We've loaded up the August calendar with BERNINA mastery classes for machine owners wanting to know more about their BERNINAs! Please register online to reserve your seat in the class. Also, it is necessary for you to check the online supply list so that you can come prepared to class.
Those who have not taken any mastery classes should start with the BERNINA Quick Start Mastery Class on August 12th. The second class in the series is Play with Your Feet scheduled for August 19th. Embroidery machines have their own class set for August 17th. August is "Back to School" even at RQ!
What's New at RQ
We've had fabric featuring firefighters and now we have fabric for their brothers and sisters in blue! Protect & Serve by Dan Morris for Quilting Treasures focuses on Police Officers and law enforcement. Badges, police gear, and vehicles are all found on the prints in this collection. Use the pieces to make the Protect and Serve Quilt Kit (seen above) with a finished size of approximately 51" x 62 1/4"
Savannah by Gingiber for Moda Fabrics is now available at RQ. Perfect for the nursery (or just because) this collection features neutral colored animal squares on a panel. The panel can be combined with whatever your color scheme! Grab a charm pack or one of the associated coordinates, including a zebra print, to create adorable decor.
How about a modern autumn collection? Woodlands Fusion by AGF Studio combines rich crimson and coral with navy to create a warm collection. Unique prints such as the deer head silhouettes and "sketchy" coral texture are countered with more traditional florals. Grab an "oh-so-soft" Pure Elements Solid to coordinate!
