My Quilting Adventure Week 46
Posted by KJCB on October 17, 2017
I have a passion for batiks. It has a tendency to overflow the one plastic bin that I try to use to contain my love of batiks. Sometimes to avoid my self-imposed rule of one tub of batiks, I buy a precut such as the Tonga Treat Square that I purchased of this collection. I also have a love of Jaybird Patterns and being able to sew unsual shapes without the hassle of y-seams. So needless to say, I love this quilt.
If you take a close look at the pieces in this quilt top, there are triangles and half triangles. However, I chose to look at the "bigger picture" and quilt the diamond shapes...do you seem them?
Here's a close-up of the diamond shape. I chose to use that as a boundary outline for the quilting design. I found the design in Angela Walters' Shape by Shape quilting book although it is similar to the wavy plaid design that I have used previously. I liked how the design helped define the shape while also creating a bit of movement.
I used my favorite continuous swirly design in the border. I altered it slightly by making the space between swirls a bit longer. I felt it just gave the border a different look instead of doing tightly packed swirls.
See how the quilting pattern adds some texture to the quilt top?
Luckily the backing fabric I chose was pretty busy because the quilting is busy as well.
Check another quilt top off the list of to-be-done!
