My Quilting Adventure Week 30
Posted by KJCB on June 12, 2017
Playing catch-up means back to back quilts this week! This quilt top needed a quick turn around as it was a gift for a wedding shower this past weekend. This top was pieced by The Boss aka Mom for a friend who is moving to the West Coast following her wedding later this year. I chose to start up the BERNINA Q-Matic to quilt this top.
One of the great things about the Q-Matic is that you get to see your quilting pattern on the screen before you start so that you can adjust it to fit your quilt top. I chose this square meander pantograph to mimic the geometric setting around the center panel.
This picture shows two rows of the pantograph design which is what fit between the quilt frame rollers. The border print was lighter than the rest of the quilt which allowed the blue thread to show up nicely.
Here's the center panel with the top half quilted and the bottom half still to go. As I watched the Q-Matic stitch, I realized that I could probably do this pattern freehand. It probably wouldn't be as straight unless I put markings on the quilt top first, but I think it will be worth a try on a future quilt top.
We put Reunion Canvas by Sweetwater on the back of this project. The idea being that the quilt can be used at the beach or outdoor events and hold up to the elements. There was no obvious difference while quilting this heavier backing. However, I did notice that it dulled the needle faster than usual and I'll need to change needles before I start the next project.
Ready for a day at the beach (after the binding of course)!
